The websites below offer prescription drug databases that describe how medications work, the cancers for which they are generally prescribed, safety precautions, and potential side effects. American Cancer Society (ACS) Guide to Cancer Drugs: The ACS Guide to Cancer Drugs contains basic information about common cancer treatment and symptom-relief medications. The database also contains information on drug precautions and potential side effects.
Medline Plus Drug Information: A service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), this database includes precautions, side effects, and proper use information for thousands of prescription and over-the-counter medications.
National Cancer Institute (NCI) Drug Information Summaries: NCI has compiled consumer-friendly overviews for about 80 common cancer medications. Each summary includes information on proper drug usage, side effects, drug interactions, and links to current clinical trials in which the drug is being used.
NCI Drug Dictionary: Intended for medical professionals, NCI's Drug Dictionary contains technical definitions and synonyms for more than 1,200 medications that are being used to treat patients with cancer or cancer-related conditions.
U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Oncology Tools: The FDA's Oncology Tools website contains a variety of resources related to cancer and approved cancer drug therapies, including disease summaries, product labels, and information on accessing unapproved drugs through clinical trials. The site also offers information on making decisions about cancer treatment in multiple languages.
WebMD Drugs and Medications Database: The WebMD Drugs and Medications Database contains warnings on drug interactions and side effects for more than 60,000 medications, herbs, and supplements.
